The Coral & Blue mission in Burundi, Africa, one of the poorest countries in the world, creates a rare and sacred space where self-expression, often a luxury when survival comes first, is finally possible. Through writing and art, children and women are invited to share gratitude, hopes, fears and dreams, then read their words aloud, fostering deep human connection. Through self expression, being seen and heard, they begin to process trauma, reclaim their voices, and experience healing rooted in creativity, dignity, and empowerment. These sessions foster self-expression, resilience, and human connection, empowering children and women to reclaim their voices and envision new possibilities. This project will also include documentation by filmmaker Michael McCabe, who will also share the stories of our project participants impacted by the mission, highlighting the transformative power of creativity, literacy, and self-expression.
