When filmmaker Dan Halperin read the newspaper headline, “The NFL Quarterback Who Became a World War II Hero, Olympian & Lands’ End Co-Founder,” Dan knew that it was finally time for him to make the film that for forty years people had urged him to make about Robert “Buck” Halperin, his dad. Also wanting his five-year old grandson Kingston to know all about his great-grandfather, Dan accepted that the adage, “that which makes a story most personal is also what makes it most universal,” also applied to him and Buck’s life story. The documentary ‘Man Legend Hero Dad’ is marked by both, Buck’s many achievements and heroic acts, and a son’s journey of discovery about his father, forty years after his father’s passing.
