CAUSE: Racial Justice, Youth Empowerment, Human Rights

CATEGORY: Film, Video

PROJECT DIRECTOR: Leonard Clifton

An actor traces his journey from Amistad to a U.S. Marine Corps PSA, exploring justice, representation, and the preservation of Black warrior narratives in American history.
From Amistad to a Post-9/11 Marine Corps PSA is a feature documentary that follows actor Leonard Clifton as he traces his journey from portraying an African captive in Steven Spielberg’s Amistad to appearing in a United States Marine Corps public service announcement produced by the Department of Defense in the aftermath of 9/11. Through archival materials, museum acquisitions, and personal reflection, the film explores how Black identity, patriotism, and the warrior narrative have evolved in American history and media.
